I look upon the sea and take in the scent, sight and sounds that only the shoreline can make. It is a sound and sight that expresses it's power, yet there is a certain comfort and peace in this as well. One by one, waves roll and break onto the shoreline. In the beginning, a strong wave moving with a great force, but then it breaks apart into a long white moving wall , that eventually loses it's force and becomes a small, passive line of water, onto the shoreline. The ocean covers approximately 70% of the earth. Living creatures that live in the ocean or utilize the ocean, must be able to survive, this mostly, unseen world. Conditions are different then on land and can be harsh. There are challenges that need to be overcome. To study Marine Biology, it is necessary to study a habitat that has unique properties, not found on land. One cannot simply study the life of the sea, without studying all the other aspects that are part of the sea. To those few that have the chance to swim in this marine world, a whole new amazing world is explored with creatures that are sometimes hard to explain. Incredible reefs and underwater structures express such unique creativity. To those that experience this marine world, will receive a special emotion of wonder and awe. |
